Jerianne Heimendinger, ScD, MPH, RD, passed away September 23, 2013.
Dr. Heimendinger's driving passion was to assist people to remain healthy so they can contribute their creative gifts to the broader community. She achieved this by working through local, state, and national agencies, including the National Institutes of Health. While at the National Cancer Institute, she helped develop and disseminate the National 5 A Day for Better Health Program, which encourages everyone to eat 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables daily. This program is now Fruits and Veggies, More Matters. She also conducted research in dietary behavior and cancer while at the AMC Cancer Research Center in Denver. She worked with all the food assistance programs while at the Department of Agriculture.
