Health Benefits of Caring for Others

This talk will describe a program of research intended to explore the pathways by which helping behavior influences physical health. Dr. Brown will review the results of a series of studies that implicate the stress response as a mediator of helping-induced benefits.

Stephanie L. Brown, PhD

<a href="http://www-personal.umich.edu/%7Estebrown/">Stephanie Brown</a> received a PhD in social psychology from Arizona<br>State University. She received a career award from NIMH to study social support and depression among dialysis patients. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of General Medicine. Stephanie leads a program on "Biosocial psychology and health" as part of the Center for Behavioral and Decision Sciences in Medicine.<br>
