Stepping Up to Health: Extending the Reach

This talk will describe the Stepping Up to Health intervention, which uses enhanced pedometers and Internet-based tailored feedback to develop low-cost interventions to promote physical activity in people with diabetes. Expanding the Reach will promote physical activity to sedentary adults who have heart disease or diabetes, or are at risk for developing heart disease, diabetes or even cancer.

Caroline R. Richardson, MD

<a href="http://chcr.umich.edu/who_we_are/people/person.2005-04-12.6512168886/person_view?searchterm=richardson">Caroline Richardson</a> is a practicing Family Physician and an assistant professor in the University of Michigan Medical School Department of Family Medicine.&nbsp; She holds a joint appointment as a Research Scientist at the VA Health Services Research and Development Service in Ann Arbor, MI.&nbsp; She is also a Research Scientist with the Institute for Research on Women and Gender.&nbsp; The main focus of Dr. Richardson's research is on integrating physical activity promotion into routine medical care. She is looking at several aspects of this issue including:&nbsp; 1) costs and benefits of increasing physical activity promotion, 2)&nbsp; objective measurement of physical activity in the primary care setting, and 3)&nbsp; intervention evaluation.&nbsp; See <a href="http://chcr.umich.edu/what_we_do/projects/project.2005-10-25.5447080655/projects_page?searchterm=richardson">Stepping Up to Health</a> for more info.<br><br>
