Using Interactive Technologies to Help People Quit Smoking: The Australian Experience
Ron Borland, PhD will discuss the use of tailored print, the Internet, and
telecounseling to help Australian smokers in their quitting efforts. The
presentation will focus on both reach and efficacy of these strategies.

<a href="http://chcr.umich.edu/who_we_are/people/person.2005-11-16.2516995712/person_view"><b>Ron Borland</b></a> is one of the Principal Investigators of the
International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project and is Director
of VicHealth Centre for Tobacco Control (VCTC) in Victoria, Australia.
Trained in psychology, Ron has worked in tobacco control since shortly
after joining the Anti-Cancer Council's Centre for Behavioural Research
in Cancer in 1986. He has published over 100 peer reviewed papers,
mostly on topics in tobacco control. Ron's expertise covers much of
tobacco control. He has an international reputation for his work
on smoking cessation and on the impact of policy changes on smokers and
the evaluation of mass campaigns. His current major interests are in
the development of a rational comprehensive regulatory framework for
tobacco, on the development of a comprehensive program to motivate and
assist in smoking cessation, and on systemic barriers to progress in
