Jay M. Bernhardt, PhD, MPH

<a href="http://chcr.umich.edu/who_we_are/people/person.2005-04-22.5786174032/person_view"><b>Jay Bernhardt</b></a> is an Assistant Professor of Behavioral Sciences and
Health Education at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory
University, where he is the Founding Director of the Center for Public
Health Communication. He conducts public health communication research
with an emphasis on the development and evaluation of health messages
delivered through information technology channels. Related interests
include health literacy, tailored and targeted messages, behavioral
surveillance, media effects, disease self management, and treatment
compliance.<br>
<br>Dr. Bernhardt completed his doctoral work in Health Behavior and
Health Education at the School of Public Health at the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). He earned is Master's of Public
Health degree at what is now the UMDNJ School of Public Health, and his
Bachelor's of Arts in Sociology from Rutgers College at Rutgers, the
State University of New Jersey, where he also worked as a health
educator in the Office of Sexual Assault Services. In addition, he is
the co-founder of the Early EDGE program with his wife, Sheryl Ball
Bernhardt, MS, OT R/L.<br>
<br>Dr. Bernhardt serves as the Associate Editor of the journal
Health Education Research and is a member of the Executive Board of the
American Public Health Association (APHA) and the Georgia Public Health
Association. His many honors include the Jay S. Drotman Memorial Award
of APHA and the Early Career Award from theĀ  Public Health
Education and Health Promotion Section of APHA. He also has been
inducted into numerous honorary societies including Delta Omega, Eta
Sigma Gamma, Order of Omega, the Order of the Grail-Valkyries at UNC
Chapel Hill, and the Cap and Skull Society of Rutgers College.<a href="http://chcr.umich.edu/who_we_are/people/person.2005-04-22.5786174032/person_view"></a><span style="color: rgb(51, 51, 255);"></span><br>
