This project focuses on creating a website to place existing oral health and tobacco cessation information currently available only through printed materials. The goal of the website is to provide health care providers in Michigan with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide good oral health care and tobacco cessation resources. The content is placed on the Voices of Detroit Initiative (VODI) website.

Make existing MAHP tobacco prevention/cessation information accessible from a website.

Primary health care providers in southeast Michigan have access to the "Oral Health and Tobacco in a Primary Care Setting" training website so they can use the information, education, and resources provided to better care for their patients oral health needs.

The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research is providing funding to the Detroit Center for Research on Oral Health Disparities to work with a Detroit community of low-income African American children and their primary caregivers to promote oral health and reduce disparities.

As part of this funding, the Detroit Center is combining efforts with the Michigan Association of Health Plans and the University of Michigan to create a website where health care providers can
gain the knowledge and skills necessary to:

• screen for and prevent dental caries or tooth decay
• screen for and prevent periodontal or gum diseases
• screen for and prevent oral and pharyngeal cancer
• identify tobacco users and provide tobacco cessation counseling

The Michigan Association of Health Plans will provide the content for the site and a basic structure for the site's navigation.

This project was not part of a study, and therefore has no findings.
