Project Overview +
This project aims to develop an online library of video vignettes that highlight a discussion with a leading researcher or practitioner who describe one problem in the process of dissemination and implementation (D&I) and show viewers how he/she solved the problem.
Aims +
We propose to develop a freely accessible online library of video vignettes for researchers and practitioners who are interested in disseminating and implementing evidence-based practices, programs, and tools for cancer prevention and care.
The proposed Dissemination and Implementation (D&I) Narrative Video Library project has three specific aims:
- Create a searchable pilot database of video vignettes and corresponding text transcripts on key cutting edge issues in D&I (D&I Narrative Video Library),
- Embed each video vignette and its corresponding text transcript file into the Make Research Matter (MRM) D&I Planning Tool that is currently under construction with NCI funding and that uses the Michigan Tailoring System as its backbone, and
- Collect formative research from representative potential users of the D&I Narrative Video Library
Participants +
Researchers and practitioners who are interested in disseminating and implementing evidence-based practices, programs, and tools for cancer prevention and care.
Intervention +
The database of video vignettes and text transcripts are built based on structured interviews conducted with nationally and internationally known D&I researchers, expert practitioners, and awardees of the NCI Diffusion and Dissemination Supplements.
Vignettes include contexts of public health as well as healthcare delivery. Interviewees respond to a set of D&I-relevant questions with a concisely stated lesson learned from their own work, framed in a generalizable manner, for viewers to consider adapting to their own research or practice objectives.
Vignettes are defined by the interview question and are centered around a relevant D&I-related topic. Each interview is organized into ten to twelve 2-3 minute vignettes.
Vignettes are also available as transcripts, coded by cancer type (e.g., breast cancer, colorectal cancer), topic area (e.g., physical activity, chemotherapy, pain management), phase of the cancer control continuum (i.e., prevention, early detection, treatment, survivorship, and end-of-life care), setting (e.g., primary care, worksite, school, pool), and by other D&I terms (e.g., adoption, reach, fidelity, target audience).
The library is a stand alone resource on the MRM website (a product of an ongoing NCI-funded project). Users browse the library by the interviewee’s name, cancer type, topic area, phase of the cancer control continuum, setting, and by D&I keywords and can access the entire interview or relevant sections.
Conclusion +
The D&I Narrative Library is available at the Make Research Matter website: http://www.MakeResearchMatter.org/NarrativeLibrary
