Dr. Shawna J. Lee is an Associate Professor at the School of Social Work at the University of Michigan and a faculty affiliate at the Institute for Social Research, Research Center for Group Dynamics, where she is also a member of the Center for the Analysis of Pathways from Childhood to Adulthood (CAPCA).

Dr. Lee's research examines factors related to paternal risk for child maltreatment, and how fathers may influence maternal maltreatment risk, for example, via the incidence of interpersonal violence in the home. Recent work uses longitudinal data to explore the influence of acculturation on Hispanic fathers' and mothers' harsh parenting practices, and the effects of paternal and maternal corporal punishment on child well-being. Related studies investigate the association of community variables to maternal parenting behaviors and maltreatment risk.
