John A. Nyman, PhD


John Nyman, PhD, is a health economist and Professor in the Division of Health Policy and Management, School of Public Health, University of Minnesota. Dr. Nyman spends most of his research time conducting cost-effectiveness studies. He has performed cost-effectiveness analyses on a wide range of treatments or issues, including family planning program, a percutaneous procedure for lower back pain, undiagnosed syncope, violence in the work place, cancer screening, prophylactic revascularization, smoking cessation interventions, mammogram outreach interventions, advance practice nurses in nursing homes, and the drug gemfibrozil.

Other research interests include: Nursing home behavior and long-term care policy, the theory of insurance and health insurance, the behavior of physicians, and gambling as a public health issue.
