Anne Joseph, MD, MPH, is Wexler Professor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine.  She is also Director of the Applied Clinical Research Program at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Joseph has conducted clinical research to help people stop using tobacco since 1986, with an emphasis on randomized controlled clinical trials and health services research.  She has tested experimental smoking cessation and smoking reduction interventions for special populations of smokers including patients with cardiac disease, peripheral arterial disease, alcohol dependence, and low income smokers.

Key findings from these studies include demonstrating safety of nicotine replacement therapy in patients with cardiovascular disease, effects of the timing of smoking intervention on alcohol treatment outcomes, and efficacy of a longitudinal care intervention for long-term abstinence from smoking.
