NCI renews CHCR Center of Excellence
UM Center receives a $8M grant in cancer communications research.
The National Cancer Institute has renewed the designation of Center of Excellence in Cancer Communications Research (CECCR) for the University of Michigan Center for Health Communications Research. The purpose of the new five-year $8M award is Extending message tailoring to new clinical and post-treatment settings based on multi-factorial design and builds on the first five years goal to develop an efficient, theory-driven model for generating tailored health behavior interventions that is generalizable across health behaviors and sociodemographic populations.
The award recognizes the Center's contributions to the field of health behavior change research and supports three major studies as well as several smaller developmental projects. The three main research projects include:
- Statewide Web-Based Cessation Program: Evaluating Media and Cessation Components, (Victor Strecher, PI)
- Increasing Colorectal Cancer Screening (CRC) in African Americans: Tailoring and Motivational Interviewing, (Ken Resnicow & Jennifer Elston-Lafata, PIs)
- Promoting Shared Decision Making Through a Tailored Decision Aid, (Peter Ubel & Angela Fagerlin, PIs)
