UM Center receives a $10M grant in cancer communications research.
The National Cancer Institute has designated the University of Michigan Center for Health Communications Research a
Center of Excellence in Cancer Communications Research (CECCR). The purpose of the five-year $10M award is to develop an efficient,
theory-driven model for generating tailored health behavior
interventions that is generalizable across health behaviors and
sociodemographic populations.
The award recognizes the Center's contributions to the field
of health behavior change research and supports three major studies
as well as several smaller developmental projects. The three research projects include:
- Project Quit - to facilitate smoking cessation
- Eat for Life - to promote fruit and vegetable intake among African Americans
- Guide to Decide - to develop a decision aid to help women decide
whether to undergo tamoxifen prophylaxis for breast cancer prevention
